CLIMBING MOUNT KILIMANJARO
Being based in Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro is obviously the most popular of our mountain trekking packages as well as being the ultimate African mountain to climb.
Soaring above Kilimanjaro National Park, Africa’s highest peak is 5896 meters above sea level. This incredible equatorial mountain, capped with snow is known as the roof of Africa. It rises from cultivated farmlands on the lower levels, through lush rainforest and alpine meadows, and finally across a barren lunar landscape to the twin summits of Kibo and Mawenzi, and the highest point Uhuru Peak.
The lower reaches of the mountain is home to many animals including buffalo, elephants, leopards and monkeys. Occasionally you might also find Elands hiding in the saddle area between the peaks. The lower slopes are also home to the Maasai and Chagga tribes and their fascinating cultures and ways of life. This makes trekking Kili a fantastic experience in the natural world.
The trek attracts around 40,000 trekkers who come to climb mount Kilimanjaro each year , in part because it is possible to summit without ropes or technical climbing experience. However, it is definitely a challenge and the right preparation and experienced team is essential. Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is not a cheap undertaking either but it is an investment in personal experience, one that you will never forget.
